Terrible Service!! Help Me get my $ Back! 10/11/2011

The same thing happened to me & my husband. when the weather wasnt good for the scheduled trip they cancelled & we were not able to re-scedule any trip for the future. It was like they got their $ and they didnt care. Now where are they?? They dont respond to emails, phone messages, etc!! I am calling the better business bureau. These people were featured on good morning america. Maybe they can do a follow up segment on what a SCAM they are!! Please all join me in turning these crooks in!! more

TERRIBLE customer service! Buyer beware! 6/27/2011

When some folks write a positive review, keep in mind that this is only when everything works out for your scheduled trip. I.e. weather permits, you're in good health and able to go, tour guide(s) is(are) in good health and available, venue is available, etc. We were such customers who had had a positive experience with AS but we realize now that with our first 2 trips all checkpoints had worked out in favor of our trips so we never had to see the ""other side"" of AS. IF however any one of these checkpoints are a no go you are very likely to have an uphill battle to ensure Adventure Society makes good on your purchase and you get to go on the trip you originally wanted to attend. I know it's a pain but I strongly recommend that one reads the disclaimers from AS before booking. You should check your emails and voice mails regularly and call them both on the day before and day of the trip. One trip that they had cancelled due to weather, they had called and left a voice mail accordingly. We got the voice mail completely understood, moved on and rescheduled a trip accordingly...no problem. Unfortunately a future planned trip did not go as well with AS and we began to see the unfriendly, apathetic side of AS. On our experience they had cancelled a trip they had scheduled due to the tour guide not being available (not sure if he/she was sick or something else). Naturally, we ended up at the meeting place as we had never received a call letting us know otherwise. When we called AS obviously frustrated for taking the time to get to the meeting point very early in the morning and leading to no trip, they simply said they had called and left a message! I told them that they had not and had my cell phone with me on which we were calling. No voice mail on the phone and I reiterated that they had called to cancel a trip previously for which I had received voice mail. Couldn't it be possible that they may have mis-dialed and left the message with someone that was not us? They refused to acknowledge this as a possibility and just told us that we would be credited the amount to apply for another trip, good for a year. We were frustrated but acquiesced as AS does not offer refunds. The only trip we wanted to go on was the zipline/rappelling adventure. This was a popular trip and it was not easy to book online. We repeatedly went to AS to ask them to book us as a priority as we were the cancelled party. They basically said there wasn't much they could do about it but we can go on one of the other trips like biking or wine trips. We didn't really want those as it was the ziplining we were excited to do. AS however seemed not to care about keeping good customer relations. Shortly thereafter they seemed to stop taking reservations for trips and posted a notice that they are revamping, and all outstanding credits will remain with customers when they've relaunched. They've stated relaunch dates that have been postponed time and time again and now it seems to be about a year+ since I've seen or heard any update. As of this posting their website has not been updated and their contact us page is no longer available. When you call the number that seems to be offline as well. I've sent countless emails inquiring as to the status of when trips may be available again but honestly we just want to have our hard earned money refunded so we can apply it to places that run this type of business better. It seems to me that AS has all but gone off the radar. Has anyone heard from them at all? Is adventure society going bankrupt? From the lack of response, we fear that they are or have closed up shop somehow. If they do happen to come back online we really advise that buyer's should beware and you should check the status of this and other businesses on the better business bureau website (or similar reviews) to get a good understanding of how the business treats its customers. Currently adventure society has an F rating....we second this grade. more

Do not use especially if the activity is weather dependent 2/13/2011

Tempting, but after a birthday gift for Skydiving more than 2 years ago, I've endured 2 cancellations and rejected from many waiting list. Once they cancel anything, they will keep your money! They make it your responsibility to spend. But then in 2010 there were no activities to spend it on!? If you have outstanding credit, then 'first come first serve' still means you have to stand in line for all of the overbooked events. Still trying to get my money back as spending credit on events is just impossible. Horrible, horrible experience. I feel ripped of for ~$500,- more

Winter Fun! 2/21/2010

I found this company through your website and went on their Cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and snow tubing trip and had a blast! Although their first trip was cancelled since there was no snow, an online credit was issued quickly so I could sign up for the next trip date right away which was a plus!\r \r I'm not normally a winter person as I like to stay warm, but I signed up because I saw that I could go inside if I wanted to. I was so active during all of the activities that I didn't need to as I was super warm. Their trip leader was great as well, very helpful. Highly recommend this group and this trip! Also, met some wonderful people. Pros: Quick online credit 4 weather cancellation. Packing list. Cons: Weather & bit of a drive 2 get 2 there but worth it! more

Lots to Choose From & Friendly People! 2/15/2010

Have been on 3 trips so far, nighttime rafting during a meteor shower - which was awesome!, a horse back ride with a visit to a winery where we got to play bocce outdoors, and a dog sledding trip with my boyfriend. Had a lot of fun on all of the trips and even made a new friend that I now go to brunch with on Sundays! Super fun, highly recommended, even if you go alone. Pros: Great activities, Fun people, Loved the winery & bocce! Cons: Early mornings (how about a 9am start!) more

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE 7/26/2009

VERY SHADY. CUSTOMER SERVICE AND CANCELLATION POLICIES ARE INCONSISTENT. DO NOT RECOMMEND. Cons: BUYER BEWARE more

Worst Adventure Society... DO NOT RECOMMEND 7/8/2009

This is the worst adventure group out there. Their cancellation policies are complete shady. First, there is not disclaimer anywhere on the site. Second they have a 10 business days policy which is confusing. I assumed since their business runs over the week-end, it included week-ends. I cancelled I believe 9 days prior and I wasn't able to get a refund. I have since - 8 months later - trying to reschedule a trip. All of their trips are booked 2 months in advance. I emailed them to inquire about other trips - that was 8 days ago - i still haven't heard from them. Completely unprofessional & I can say goodbye to my $200. Cons: Unflexible policies & shadiest group out there more

Be Careful!! 7/7/2008

While the trips seem wonderful, if they cancel due to weather, you do NOT get a refund--whether or not you are able to go on any other trip or not! Customer Service is non-responsive and unreasonable. Unless you have unlimited flexibility in case of cancellation, this company is IMPOSSIBLE to use!! Pros: fun trips Cons: YOU GET NO REFUND IF THEY CANCEL! more

Good Times 1/8/2005

AS has something for everyone. The trips are coordinated to suit all skill levels and the trip leaders always make sure you're comfortable with what you're doing. On one horseback riding trip, I was pleased that I was able to choose a group that reflected my ability. It's a great way to get out and do adventurous things you normally wouldn't plan yourself...and meet great people, from all walks of life, in and around the city. As for the leaders, if you're willing to participate, they go out of their way to facilitate a great time. I can't wait to go on another trip! Pros: variety, leadership, diff skill levels more

Great Getaway Trip! 1/7/2005

I went on a Horseriding, Kayaking & Wine-tasting trip over the summer and thought it was great. This is a fantastic way for busy NYC people who want to relax, get away from the city and have some fun! The people on the trip were friendly, also interested in the outdoor world, and I've actually remained friends with a few of them. These trips allow you to enjoy the activities that are close to NYC but which we don't really take advantage of. I didn't have to spend hours trying to find each location, I didn't have to rent an expensive rental car, and I didn't have to spend days trying to coordinate the schedules of my friends to keep the costs reasonable. Great idea! I'll be going again soon! Pros: Fun, Friendly, Hassle-free more

excellent group! I have had a great time at every event that I have been to! more

Awesome Trips & Fun People! 1/4/2005

I have been going on trips for over a year now with this company and found them to be quite professional. The trip leaders are funny, accommodating, attentive to various needs (one trip leader taught me how to kayak while the rest of the group raced off) and they're great at introducing people which is nice when you're traveling solo. For the person who complained - maybe the person leading your trip was having a bad day....? I've been on many trips and not had that experience. What I've found to be great about their trips is that you don't necessarily have to be skilled to go, for instance I took a hang gliding class! I highly recommend going on the trips as they're a lot of fun and you get to meet cool new people! I've even made a couple of friends. Pros: Pre-Planned Schedule, Cool People, Awesome Activities! Cons: , Weather Reschedules more
