Historically Speaking
Ace's Records opened in the '80s, when leather-clad big-haired metal bands ruled, dude, and when Tampa was the world capital for death metal (honest!). Way back then, Tampa was mullet-central, gang.
Mane Attractions
These days, Ace's offerings are a little more diverse, with a lot of true metal and hair bands but also a lot of punk, hardcore, neo-grunge, rap metal and other "alternative" stuff with an edge. The used-CD selection isn't very large, but it offers a wider range.
Staff Attitude
Don't come in here looking for Ricky Martin or Backstreet Boys--unless you want to get laughed out of the place by guys with tattoos over every square inch of their bodies--but you're likely to find anything from pop-metal acts like AC/DC and KISS to more intense bands like Unsane or Misfits, and cutting-edge groups like Beastie Boys.
