Editorial review from Citysearch 3/7/2013

Lets start off with the time I got there. They make you wait 30 minutes to get a lane where more than half the lanes were not being used. I guess they want you to spend money on the over price drinks.\r \r The Bowling: Shoes to Rent are $6 + tax thats ok. Not bad shoes either. Bowling was about $12 a game per person. Didnt even think about the food after looking at the prices..\r \r The setting needs work.. It is crazy dark at the bowling lanes and even see were your going as for the rest of the place it got just a little bit more light.. The floor was dirty and stain. Theres no privacy and lanes are small..Servers come by once in a while and when they do they give good serves but it took them a whole game of 3 people playing to come back with them 3 drinks..Then the drinks are unbelieveable nasty and over price. After we played 3 games and went to pay it took them 15 minutes to get our bill.. The place is not organized and needs lots of work..\r There are no good things about this place but clean shoes..\r I wont go back here.. more

Terrible Service 5/28/2012

Showed up on Memorial Day, and the lanes were less than HALF full. Was told by person at the front desk there would be a 45 minute wait (WHY?). Went to kill time in the lounge and was told by bartender that we couldn't get drinks directly from him at the bar, since he didn't have cash drawer (WTF?). Waited in lounge 25 minutes and was NEVER waited on. We left. more

terrible service, expensive, bowling is ok 10/6/2010

for some reason my negative review was removed from google, so here's a summary: *the manager huffed and rolled their eyes when asked to remove an item we did not order from our bill *we asked for drinks on 3 separate occasions and never got them *we had to ask multiple people and wait a good 10 minutes for someone to fix a mechanical problem with our lane. asking the first person did not produce any help at our location. *the people working the shoe rental area were the only nice and professional people i saw all night. *despite that, my friends and i aren't going back more

DO NOT GO BOWLING HERE!! Complete rip-off!! 1/25/2010

DO NOOOOOT GO TO 300 AT CHELSEA PIERS!!! I'm a pretty easy going person who can have fun anywhere EXCEPT HERE. Probably one of the worst weekend events I've ever had. To start, it was my friends birthday so 10 of us decided to get together, have drinks and go bowling. We ended up at 300 Chelsea Piers at 9pm on Saturday night. We didn't have a reservation so they told us it would be a 2 1/2 hour wait for 2 side by side lanes to open up - understandable on a weekend though the place was not packed at all. We decided to wait at the bar upstairs. They had 1 bartender to serve a large room of people which included parties playing pool and watching sports. After the long wait for our drinks we ALL agreed that they were extremely weak and watered down. Yes, my friends enjoy drinking but for everyone to agree that there was barely alcohol in any of them especially considering they were pricey (typical high NYC prices) is ridiculous. And we weren't the only ones complaining. I heard 2 other gentlemen complain about the service and a young lady that was extremely loud and vocal about her ""disgusting mojito"" that she refused to pay for so I know it wasn't just us. We ordered food, mini sliders and quesadillas. Both dishes were just edible - basically because i didn't eat all day and was starving - they came out of the kitchen luke warm and the bun on the burgers were stale and hard as a rock (I just ate the meat and cheese). After 3 hours we couldn't take it anymore and complained to management about the slow service and extended wait for the lanes. It was to the point of being ridiculous as we watched open lanes sitting there unoccupied and still weren't being called for ours. We were starting to think the ""wait time"" was a scam so that people spend more money. Halfway through our game I decided to go outside for a quick cigarette break with my boyfriend. I had my PAID wristband on and bowling shoes and was outside for about 10 minutes without my jacket because i planned to be quick. When we went to go back in we were locked out by security. We knocked on the glass doors, pointing at our wristbands and shoes informing them we were already customers. They looked us in the face and ignored us. We watched in amazement as they let people leave and though we spoke to them nicely they weren't letting anyone in. Supposedly there was a ""security issue"" to keep some rowdy guys from entering the building but I spent 30 MINUTES in the cold, NYC winter air, missing my turn bowling without any explanation. .After the manager finally let us in (we called our friends inside from our cellphone to get someone), we were LIVID to say the least. The staff was extremely unprofessional and looked like they could care less about any inconvenience they caused. The manager then gave us stupid ""$10 off your next game"" coupons which we gave back because we will NEVERRRR go to that establishment again. Our bill was $200 for 1 game of bowling that I missed almost half of. We paid it and left and it will be the LAST time I ever step foot in that place. I highly recommend that no one go there. Go to Bowl More or Lucky Strikes for a better experience - I've been to both and had a blast for way cheaper. I will definitely be contacting their corporate office and will sign up to every review site just to warn people that this is a horrible place or at least staffed with incompetent employees who bring down the value of the location and space. Cons: EVERYTHING more

Went Once...Went Back 1/29/2009

A few weeks ago I went here with people from work for a holiday party. We all had a great time. The food was better than what I expected it to be and ofcourse the drinks were great. The person who put together the event at our company purchased one of their drink packages that really kept our group ""rolling and bowling"". I went back with a few friends for their, I think it's called a Tuesday bowling bash. Anyway, with a DJ and 28 bucks for all you can bowl it was great. We all got on the lanes right away and were well taken care of by the staff. Will certainly go back. If you haven't been here you should go. By Manhattan standards it's very cool and affordable. Pros: Lots of space...great atmosphere and service Cons: been there twice and really don't have any more

Waste of Chelsea Pier Space 8/15/2008

I am in the military and after being underway for over a year I went back home to have long needed visit. On a family outing we stopped by the Chelsea Piers and went bowling at 300 for the first and last time. The service was a disgrace, slow and unwelcoming. The unprofessional management was prejudice and disrespectful and the staff was untrained and incompetent in their jobs. For all the money people pay to 300, it seems as if not enough goes to better hiring practices. Cons: Management/staff completely unprofessional more

Very Expensive, but an OK experience.. 7/21/2008

I was there on a Friday evening about 10pm. Just walked up with a friend, no wait time, clean environment. I like the disco lighting, but the loud gangsta rap was a bit much for me, but if I was 18 I would have enjoyed it more. Funny but after 10pm they do not allow anyone under 21 to be there, not a bad thing. Very expensive, three games some appetizers, beers about $150 for two people. For a more traditional bowling experience, I'll look elsewhere.. Pros: No wait time when I was there, attentive service.. Cons: Costly, it's bowling not clubbing..., food just OK more

Just Average Fun 5/20/2008

I went here 5/9/2008 to celebrate a friend's birthday, and it was just ok. We got there way around 5 and waited an hr and a half just to pay 4 dollars more for a game which I thought couldve been a bit better. they wait time is very ridiculous and it was more noisy than any bowling alley I been too, it sounded like a cafeteria. Parents were'nt controlling their kids, little toddlers to 10 yr olds rolling on the floors, jumping on the couches and play fighting, I never once saw a staff member give the parents a clue, even when the parents were looking at the kids play unsafe. the food was good and piping hot despite the reviews. we had sum nachos, fries and chicken tenders that were a big enough portion for 3 people to share. the only thing I hated was the bottle water thing, they serve one type of water and dont inform u there's a water fountain. The lanes were just average, they were indeed clean but too close to the next party which was extremely loud but one good thing is the setup of the lanes, they've got music videos (recent and old) playing while you bowl to a particular theme, pretty cool. Another thing they could do better on is the service, the staff is all laughs not really paying attention to your needs and most of them were steady checking out the birthday girl while we waited an extra 15 mins after the hr and a half just for sum1 to show us where 2 get shoes. also they could use some more activities to do while you wait, the little arcade is'nt much and quite expensive ($1 for 1 token)...Overall i'd recommend it to some one but I'd point out go after 6 when the kiddies are gone or if you go early, pack you patience! Pros: Good atmosphere, nice lanes Cons: service, wait time more

Terrible customer service 5/19/2008

We went there yesterday for my boyfriend's birthday and, while waiting for lanes for over 90 minutes, we had some birthday cake and cupcakes that friends brought in for the occasion - in addition to some beer and drinks we ordered from the bar. We eventually got our lanes and had fun bowling, but after spending about $300 on bowling and drinks, we still got charged $25 for eating our own cake and desserts that were brought in to celebrate the birthday. The managers were inflexible when we tried to get a refund - they said we should've gotten cake from their so-called restaurant, and that was just cheap and petty on their part. Oh - and when I wanted a glass of water, they only wanted to sell me bottled water, and neglected to tell me that there was a water fountain near the bar. We won't be coming back !! There are plenty of other more accomodating places around! more

Great Bowling but skip the food. 4/1/2008

Recently went to 300 with my company to have a fun night out bowling. The booking and arrangement process was pretty easy, and when we arrived we were quickly installed at our lanes. The Facilities are really good, and some of the best bowling i've ever had. One thing I missed however was a larger selection of bowlingballs to choose from as the only available ones seemed to be the ones already placed at the lanes. Pros: Good lanes, ok service Cons: Food is horrible, poor selection of beer, expensive more

This Place has Everything!!! 1/21/2008

300 is the mecca of all bowling alleys! It is has the perfect combination of everything for a Pros: hot staff and dancers Cons: wish they had some healthier food to eat more

300 NY VIP hotttttt 10/10/2007

I went with some friends to 300 New York for bowling last weekend. We were picked out of the crowd waiting at the door and asked if we wanted to go to VIP. It cost more but they told us it was better so we did it. EVERY GIRL WORKING BACK THERE WAS SMOKING HOT. The drinks were on the expensive side but we looked at the bottle service list and they were not as bad as some clubs in Manhattan. They even had dancers (not strippers) back there. We got wasted and the girls next to us were dancing with us. The DJ was tearin' it up. Everyone was having a good time. I will go back to this place whenever I can afford it. more

Best in NY!!!! 8/22/2007

I have been to this bowling alley before the renovations and it was your average typical bowling experience. I haven't been since then until last week and i was blown away. This place makes leisure time and bowlmor look like a dump! They have giant video screens in back of the lanes with a dj spinning the lastest tunes. The system is post pay now as opposed to prepaid before and your given someone to take you to the lanes. Actual Service!!! Our waitress was great she gaves us recommendations on what to eat and drink. Me and my girls went for the xtreme platter that had everything on it and some drinks (Delicious). It was great! Everything was conveniently on one bill food and drinks. When we finished bowling and a couple more drinks at the bar (try the frozen big blue margarita-it's just like the one @ BBQ's) Pros: Parking is expensive inside the piers so park in the lot on 18th Street and 10th Ave or be prepared to break your wallet CASH ONLY!--- Make a reservation so you don't have to wait. Cons: A super-fun time!! On the up side if you do choose to park in the overpriced parking lot there is valet service for free on pier 59. more

Great Night Out 7/10/2007

I went to 300 New York with a bunch of friends for a birthday party. We had a blast!!!. The service was great, our server made sure that the drinks kept coming. We had a buffet and the food was really good not what I had expected. I am thinking of planning a birthday party for my sister her for her 30th in the private lanes called Club 300, which has a cool VIP club feel. Can't wait to come again. Pros: Great drinks more

Great Saturday Night Out!!! 6/27/2007

I am not much of a bowler so when my friends decided to go to 300 on a saturday night lets say I was not very optimistic. To my surprise I was pleased when we got there. The atmosphere is great and the xtreme bowling was wonderful. The staff is pleasent and very welcoming. The drinks and the food are also good. Needless to say I am not a great bowler but I would DEFINITELY go back!! It makes for a great and exciting saturday night and I recommend going, Pros: Everything was great I was pleased more

Pleasantly Surprised 6/24/2007

Was invited to my friend's birthday bowling party and thought it was going to be lame since I hadn't been bowling in 10 years and didn't have much fun then. I was impressed from the moment we entered the door. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our laneside server was attentive and kept the drinks coming. The atmosphere was perfect, from the XL Music Video Screens behind every lane to the high energy music that pleased the crowd. I couldn't believe that I actually had fun bowling. I will definitely be back. more

The Best Party Ever - 300 New York Rocks!!! 6/20/2007

My boyfriend threw me a surprise birthday party @ 300 New York on Friday, June 8th. It was the best party I ever had. He rented these private Club 300 Lanes. I never seen lanes like it before. There were big screens with my pictures and our video from our vacation. It was so cool. The food was great, and there was a private bar in club 300. There was our own private DJ = he was awesome. The staff was very attentive and on point. I didn't want to leave, the drinks were good and they even decorated the private space for me. I was so surprised. Til this day I'm getting compliments from all of my friends. I never been bowling in Chelsea because I always thought it was too far. The commute was actual very simple. I will definately recommend this venue for anyone who wants to have a party. And the waitress told me they even do corporate event. Pros: Great Venue, food was great & service was on point more

Just a great night out. Great food and drinks and bowling to. Fantastic time. 6/20/2007

Went with some friends there recently on a Friday night. We had a blast. One person in our group had been there before with her company and was amazed how great the place looked. She found out they recently renovated the whole place. We did have to wait a bit for a lane but even that was no problem. They have this great lounge area where we sat and had some drinks, really a great atmosphere. They were playing some really great music video's on these huge screens down by the bowling pins, unbelievable, I've never seen that before. We had some really good food while we bowled and just had so much fun. The service was great, we had our own server. After bowling we went upstairs to this other lounge, our server called it the Loft. It's a really great spot. The music is different but still great. You can look out and down to the lanes, really cool. We had a drink up there and it was just a real nice time. Great atmosphere like downstairs but different. I will definitely be going back. As New York goes not too expensive either. One person in our group was talking to a manager there and found out they also do kids birthday parties and has since booked a party for his neice for a Saturday afternoon. Pros: Service--Atmosphere--Different areas to sit and eat and drink--Music Cons: The wait for the lane if I want to be picky more
