Food stands out -- Service holds it back 11/1/2008

This was our first visit to this waterfront resturant attached to the Marriott. We pulled up to what we thought was the front of the resturant, but turns out to be a private entrance for the condos next door. You need to pull into the Marriott main entrance, you can just valet park & they will validate your ticket. You walk into the dining room, the mood is modern, but relaxed and dimly lit. Our first impression of the service was what appeared to be the manager. Stepping to the podium, he didn't say a word, but looked down at the screen. The hostess showed up a minute later, greeted us and showed us to our table. Our friendly waitress took our drink order. They have a nice Northwest wine selection, 1/2 bottles and wine flights. It took a very long time for our waitress to return with our drink order. My 12 year old ordered a Shirley Temple, it came to the table mixed with soda water, rather than 7-up. We had go to the bar to get it fixed, as again we waited for some time for the staff to come back to the table. Appetizers were well executed. Crab cakes were a little cold, had a nice crisp crust & subtle flavor. There were several flatbreads to choose from. We choose the fig, proscuttio, gorgenzola flat bread. The sweet fig jam, the salty proscuttio and gorgenzola pair well together. The bread was crispy with a slight chew to it. Dinner came (finally), scallops with Isralie cous cous and fennel. Scallops were seared to perfection and paired well with the cousous & fennel. My husband ordered a steak, again well executed with grilled onions and barbeque style sauce with mustard undertones and not too sweet. For dessert we ordered the molten choc. cake & a banana cake with merange. The banana cake was still frozen & the molten cake looked like it had exploded on the plate. I'd recommend the flat breads and small plates, hopefully they'll get the service up to par soon. Also note the lobster is from Maine & not Australian. more

best piano player in Seattle! 10/29/2007

I have been dining here for business and pleasure since it has opened - the food, usually excellent, but not consistant - the one thing that brings me back (and everyone I know!) is the BEST piano player in town! Junie knows more tunes than any musician I have met, always has a smile, and knows more about Seattle than most concierge! She has made many a birthday, anniversary and business dinner special! She is a treasure to Seattle and to this hotel. Pros: live music! Cons: ok food more

Not worth putting up with the terrible service 7/29/2007

Astoundingly bad service. The wait staff completely forgot one of our entrees (why did she think he wouldn't want dinner???) The drinks were late?we had to ask for them twice. We had to ask for bread, otherwise we would have had nothing to eat for 30 minutes. Appetizers finally arrived?no utensils. Fortunately, you can eat oysters without a fork, but it gets kinda rude to just shove food with your fingers. Had to wait for utensils. Food sat in front of us... Main course was OK as far as I could tell, but that was because we were ravenous by the time we got it. And only two of us actually got food in front of us?then our plates were cold by the time the third plate was scrambled together... Empty plates stayed on the table. And, of course, it took forever to get the tab. No restaurant is worth this.... I can get better service at the QFC where the food is about the same and the prices are better. Pros: Food was alright Cons: Service was beyond terrible more

Great lunch value!!! 7/16/2007

My wife and I happened upon this restaurant while walking the piers on a Sunday afternoon. While the lunch menu was limted, we both found something we really liked. Her fish and chips were excellent, and my burger was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The service was some of the best I have encountered in a while. Lunch was a great way to try really good fare, while avoiding the $35 average entree price for dinner. We will be bringing friends back for sure!!! Pros: Lunch was a great value! Cons: it would be at least a $100 dinner out for two... more

Great Service, Potentially Great Food, HORRIBLE chef 7/23/2006

My husband and I went to Fish Club for our anniversary. The service was probably the best we have ever received. The waiter was extremely attentive and knew the offerings quite well. He even took most of the bones off a whole cooked fish for my husband because he only knows how to eat fillets. However, the food was horrible. We had flatbreads for appetizer; while it was good, it was nothing to write home about. My husband had a fried whole rainbow trout with tomato chutney. The trout, while visually appealing, was quite dry. The tomato chutney was sickenly sweet. On the other hand, my swordfish was perfectly tender and moist, but it was as salty as the sea water! For the first time ever, I was tempted to send the dishs back, but I didn't want to make a scene and ruin our anniversary. Being an avid foodie and cook, I see great potential in the recipes and quality of the ingredients. It is a shame that the dishes were so poorly executed. Perhaps it was a one time fluke, but the dishes tasted so horrible that we definitely will not return. Pros: Amazing service, Potentially good food Cons: Chef can't cook more

Best Seafood in Seattle! 7/10/2006

Everything about this restaurant is fantastic! Everything was delicious- I highly suggest the seafood paella (stay away if you don't like spicy though!). Service was friendly and without the usual "I don't care" attitude that seems to be the norm for Seattle restaurants. By far the best seafood in Seattle... great for a romantic evening out if you can get one of the private tables in the hall! Pros: Great food, knowledgable servers, complimentary valet parking Cons: Gets noisy when crowded more

Fantastic 11/12/2005

Great food. The only con might be that the staff was a bit TOO attentive if that is possible. But the food was amazing, and well worth the money. Free valet parking, so parking is easy. Pros: food, value more

Chef Chris is fabulous 9/8/2005

I have been to the fish club for brunch, lunch, happy hour, dinner, and I can honestly say I have never been let down. After this last trip, I just had to post a review. The butternut squash tortolli is unbeleivable! Goat cheese gnocci? Sooooooo good! And let me tell you the trout saltimbocca? W-O-W! I also was very impressed with their concoctions from the bar. Over the summer they were delightful, but getting ready for fall ( a bit early ), I opted for a heavier classic, a martini garnished with a rosemary sprig and a gorgonzola stuffed olive. It was pure perfection. My boyfriend loved the crab cakes and the sorbets. Service may not be impeccable, but who wants an incredibly snooty waiter looking down his nose at you? They are always very professional, VERY helpful, and always willing to answer your questions. Pros: comp valet parking, incredible food, happy hour Cons: a bit loud more

If you happen to be staying at the hotel..... 8/28/2005

You'll be surprised that you get something a little better then your average Hotel fare, but - for Seattle it's definately a pass in the resturant scene. Pros: Comfy Chairs, Open Kitchen/View Cons: Food Quality, Bar Quality, Layout more

Love the Fish Club 6/3/2005

Love the Fish Club. This restaurant is the hidden gem in Seattle. I work in the restaurant industry and must say that this place is fabulous. My husband and I have always had a great dining experience and we come here often. We take all of our out-of-town guests here and recommend this place to everyone. The food is fabulous. The service is fabulous. The hosts and managers are fabulous. Love the valet service. more

A+ for service 5/14/2005

I love starting the meal with a good bread and the onion focaccia did not disappoint with the entire experience bathed in frequent attention to our needs. The ahi was up there with the best and the goat cheese gnocchi was better than any gnocchi at some of the well-known Italian restaurants in town. It was a Sunday nite and quiet, so the ambiance was a little lost. Bibb salad needed more flavor and the rhubarb/strawberry dessert was small and not up to par with the rest of the meal. more

Amazing Food 6/11/2004

The food at Fish Club was interesting and delicious - I have eaten here twice, once during the week when it was much more sparsely populated with people and again on the weekend when we had to wait in the bar for 20 minutes. Both times the service was great, but I recommend the atmosophere on a weekend night. Pros: Valet Parking, Great food, Swank atmosophere more

Last Chance 8/30/2003

We went to Fish Club the first week it opened and felt like they should have been paying us to be experimented with. Several months later we went for breakfast and had another bad experience. Nothing here is right. Inexperienced staff, a buffet that was always needing more attention, and a $30 bill for mediocrity adds up to NEVER AGAIN. Shame on you Tod English for not caring enough to see this place well operated! Cons: no value, poorly trained staff, no art more

Something is Fishy 8/22/2003

For starters why would you cross the trolley tracks and fumble to find the entrance to the apparent egomaniac "Todd English's" Fish Club when you can easily access real water views & an established reputation for seafood at Anthony's across the street. The inexperience in the kichen shows in the presentation & quality of the food. The flavors are lacking as well. For a celebrity Chef you would expect more. Trying to give the place one last chance to wow me I tried dessert - even the worst dinner experience can be saved by a stellar Pastry Chef. This was the straw the broke the camel's back. Needing to spend additional $ on a good bourbon to get the over gelatinous panna cotta down I realized this place is no more then a well written menu worth about as much as the paper it is printed on. more

Loan Specialist 8/22/2003

My husband and I went there twice for breakfast. The buffet was fine. Nothing fancy. If you prefer to order from the ala carte menu, then I highly recommend the eggs benedict. Actually, all the choices looked very good. Pros: Great service more

Seattle's New Gem with an LA atmosphere! 8/3/2003

Definitely a very romantic place to be with your Sweetie. The place is very posh with dark, velvet drapes, tables with chairs facing the window so one can enjoy the Puget Sound at night...a nice place to get into the groove with your loved one...food was amazingly delicious and adventurous, the service excellent!!! A must try!!! Pros: Romantic, Private, Cozy more

I Know How Jackie O must have felt 7/19/2003

If you've ever wondered what The Rat Pack or upper crust of US gov't must have felt in the 50's at swanky lounges and supper clubs... this is it! Fabulous food, ambience is amazing, and the treatment we recieved was top notch. Admitttedly, the staff is rather young and probably not as poised as one would expect (they forgot soup spoons with our soup course and juggled their duties around with some blank stares,) but I'm sure that as they continue training this young group will be more polished than any other restaurant staff Seattle has attempted to assemble. Bravo! We shall return! Pros: Spectacular food, Wonderful for groups, Ambience Abounds Cons: $10 Cocktails!, Rookie Staff more

Fun family Breakfast 7/12/2003

What a nice treat? The service was excellant. I felt like the staff was waiting for me to arrive like I was some presidential guest. They were always on there feet ready to serve. The hostess was especially kind and always had a big smile. I went there for breakfast. They have a great buffet. I start by eating a great selection fresh fruit, freshly baked items, and some yogurt. By the time I was done with that my waffle was ready. It was garneshed with whip cream and mandarin orange slices. I then added this wonderful orange syrup that freshly made. It added such a pizaz that I definately returning for lunch some time in the near future Pros: service, food, family enviroment more

Newly Found Waterfront Treasure 7/4/2003

My husband & I recently found this amazing new restaurant down on the waterfront. The room was vibrant and inviting with great views of the bay and the open kitchen; which puts out, hands down, some of the best new food in Seattle. The cocktails were great, the somalier was very helpful, and the food was absolutely outstanding. The Mediterranean inspired cuisine utalizing the localy fresh ingredients was a refreshing change form the norm. Free valet parking! We will definately be back Pros: great value Cons: not well marked more

Most expensive drinks in Seattle 6/23/2003

I've gone to the Fish Club twice for drinks. Each time I've had mediocre service. The waitresses are extremely green. Ask for a premium Vodka and they will have to double check to see what they have. The drinks are more expensive than any other place in the city that I've come across. There is little atmosphere, no music, so what is the justification. Last week the bill for two cocktails with tax and standard gratuity was over $23. Wow. New York City can't get away with those prices unless they have entertainment or some serious star appeal. This place has neither. more

  • The Scene
Wrapped lavishly in matte chrome and visually dominated by tall sky-blue windows, English's Northwest outpost exudes 21st-century-business-class cool. If the dot-com bubble hadn't burst, this place would be mobbed; instead, the elegant dining room and space-age bar are sparsely populated with well-heeled professionals and the occasional tourist. The fresh-faced servers are friendly, if unpolished.

    The Food
Although the broad focus is on local, seasonal ingredients, both prix-fixe and a la carte menus showcase seafood almost exclusively. Haute renderings of everything from sashimi-grade tuna to fresh lobster sandwiches are consistently executed and thoughtfully seasoned with the robust flashes of citrus and spice that make Mediterranean dishes sing. The spit roaster in the open-air kitchen does wonders for a meaty swordfish steak and other generously sized fish filets, while a small-bites menu is the perfect solution for indecisive diners.
