It's late in the game to be writing this, but as years have passed, I've had to deal with the heartbreak, so I'm writing it anyway. I was referred to this clinic by several people. My adult male cat was suffering symptoms of urinary blockage. I took him in and they told me to leave him there while they tried to clear it. After a few hours, they called me and asked me to go in. I was informed that his case was pretty bad and that the only thing that could be done was a surgery on the male anatomy. The surgery was extremely expensive, but I loved my cat and asked them to give me an hour to get the money. I asked some relatives to help and they agreed. I went back to approve the surgery and Mr. Gowans denied it saying that he believed it to be unethical and that the cat's quality of life would be poor. I guess they were banking on me not having the funds, which is why they didn't tell me this in the first place. He suggested I put my cat to sleep. I cried and cried ... was completely devastated - but I was young and figured he knew what he was doing. I reluctantly put my baby to sleep.\r \r This was devastating and it stuck with me. Because of the grief I have carried with me, I researched online and found that this surgery is done all the time. I have yet to find where any vet has recommended a cat be put down because of it. Had I known, I would have taken him to another vet - like I said, I was young and trusted him. It has been years and I still live with guilt and I still miss my cat. His death was not at all necessary and I blame myself for trusting what was told and not researching further.
