Review content:
Recently I needed to have my sewing machine cleaned and serviced. While looking for somewhere to take it to, I ran across Salt Lake Sewing. I read the reviews and continued looking for somewhere else because the reviews were not very good. Every place I called had such a long waiting time to even get it in, so I read the reviews again. I decided to give it a chance despite the poor reviews.\r \r When I took the machine in on Wednesday, I found exactly what was in the reviews. . . The door was locked with a chain and I had to ring the bell and wait in the cold for a tired, old man to answer the door. Once inside it was totally disorganized (to me), stacked with boxes, machines, and who knows what, with 50 years of dust and grime, a leaking roof, and the horrible odor of cat urine. \r \r The man was somewhat gruff as I filled out my ticket. He told me to call the next day for a quote. I told him that there was nothing wrong other than needing a cleaning. He argued that it was his job to check out the machine and if there was anything wrong he needed to advise me. I reluctantly left the machine.\r \r I called the next day and he told me a hook or something was piited and needed to be replaced. It was inexpensive so I agreed. He told me it would be ready on Monday.\r \r Monday when I picked up the machine I went through the same process of ringing the bell and waiting for him to unchain the door. When I entered the building I asked him how long he had been in business. I found him to have a sense of humor. He smiled and told me he came to Utah with Brigham Young. That would explain all the dust and grime. LOL\r \r On this visit I saw him differently than when I left the machine. I saw a man that had been repairing sewing machines for more than half a century still trying to make a living. As I looked at all the lighting for sale and boxes of who knows what, I found myself wondering what treasures he had stored inside them. He comes from an era where it was wise to save everything because you might need it someday. I saw a spark in his eyes. This man still enjoys fixing sewing machines!\r \r When I examined my machine it was cleaned, repaired and wrapped in plastic to keep it clean. It works like a charm! I know I would recommend him to anyone that asks. \r \r Everyone deserves a second chance. We never know what goes on in the private lives of people. I don't have an aswer for the woman that didn't get her machine back. Maybe his wife died, maybe he had been ill. We all have had times in our careers when we are not at 100%. I am glad that I gave him a chance. He proved that 50+ years of experience makes up for not having a ""clean to my standards"" building.
