Review content:
New monthly service charge (Free checking???), ran dormant account negative by $3.77. Production Supervisor Don threatened further fees until I go to bank and pay $3.77. They refused to close account until I appear in person and pay the $3.77 fee. I have a similar account, with similar circumstances, at Capital One Bank and they never started a new service charge. The balance has been the same for about 6 months. I understand charging dormant accounts a fee and running the balance to zero. This is not a new practice. However, running the account negative and then threatening collection and further fees is quite shocking over $3.77. The cost of the transaction to have me show up at the bank and process the $3.77 will cost the bank more than the fee they will collect. Any business that is this out of touch will not be doing well for long (e.g. spend $15.00 to close an account and collect $3.77). This makes them look desperate for cash.
