The Best Neighborhood Watering Hole in Greater Seattle 8/15/2006

There's a hidden secret on Mercer Island called the Roanoke Inn. Once an Inn for ferry riders crossing Lake Washington from Leschi to the island, the Roanoke has been in continuous operation since 1914...and feels like it. Reminds me of some of the inns and roadhouses I discovered while living in upstate Mass. Food is typical tavern fare...maybe a notch or two higher on the preparation scale. Not cheap but reasonable, with enough variety to satisfy a range of dietary preferences. A great place to meet friends after work...especially during the summer, when there's ample outdoor seating on the open front porch, the side patio and the back yard. It's a must visit for anyone who has missed out on this little gem of a historical road house. more
