A 'boutique' laundromat 2/2/2007

If you think of a filthy laundry room with piles of trash and half-usable washers, you're in surprise. Owner Joy Straub has transformed this previously ailing neighborhood laundromat into Portland's premier self-serve coin laundry facility since her taking over two years ago. Large, modern, computerized washers offer several customizable options and handle up to 50 pounds, making your laundry a fast, easy and pleasant experience. Every first Wednesday of each month is the famous "free dry" day, on which most dryers will run free of charge for 30 minutes. Expect a long wait for a dryer as this event has become wildly popular. The facility is usually clean and family-friendly. For those who would rather not do their own laundry Joy of Laundry does it for you for 80 cents per pound ($8 minimum). The only feature not available here is dry cleaning. As the shop is located next to Safeway, Blockbuster Video, Perfect Look and the post office, it is easy to combine your shopping and errands into one trip! more
