It's no longer the Vance 4/11/2006

The Vance has become the Hotel Max. The building is on the national register of historic buildings, so when the new hotel folks bought it, they couldn't make any structural changes. But - WOW is it different from the shabby, threadbare Vance! They've gone with a "hip/music" theme and the color scheme is black and hot pink. It's pretty wild! Each hallway is done with striped carpet and each guest room door is decorated with a door-sized black and white photo, each floor having a different theme. There is an entire floor dedicated to the Seattle grunge music scene, with pictures of artists (Kurt Cobain included) on each door. All that said - I don't think the new theme works in the exsisting structure. It's bold and fun, but it just looks out of place in a building with old-world wood mouldings and mosaic tile bathroom floors. Since the renovation team couldn't make any structural changes, the rooms are still tiny and funky. more
