A "spa" experience for a pence with water aerobics 3/8/2006

Residents or visitors to Reston often do not know about the magnificent 25-meter indoor pool adjacent to Hunters Woods shopping center. For a daily fee of $2 to $5 (depending on one's age and residency-status), one can slip into the bath-like 84-degree water to swim laps or partake in any number of organized aerobic exercise classes. Ingenious foam "dumbbells" or noodles are available to grab at poolside to assure that all contortions can be deftly done to the teacher's demands. The beat of music completes the fun while one does something that's good for the health and psyche! Afterward, take a steamy dip and soak in the jet-propelled crescent-shaped 16-seat hot tub. Membership is not required. "Water shoes" are helpful--but not imperative. Find them for $9.99 at Modell's for here and for the beach. Costco carries a more substantial pair for $30. If you're a resident, then "invest" in a pass which enables some participants to take classes or swim for $1.50 each. Check www.restoncommunitycenter.com for specific lap hours and class times. Hint: The most popular class is taught at 8 a.m. M-W-F by "Judy," natch! (Review by Georgiana Havill) more
