Great pastas, soups, and salads 4/10/2006

This is the original La Madeleine restaurant. With take-away or sit-down options, it offers its own version of countryside French cuisine. You take a tray and select from the foods available behind the glass, and you can also order something from the menu which will be brought to your table. There is a great variety of pastas and sandwiches as well as chicken; they also have various types of quiche, fruit desserts, and tons of cakes and pastries in their bakery like their famous sacher torte. They are best known for their delicious tomato basil soup (unlike any I've ever had) and pesto pasta salad. The Mockingbird location gets very busy at lunch time. There are three main sitting areas in this homey, wood-panelled restaurant; one's kind of out of the way off behind the check-out, but it tends to be less crowded because people forget that it's there. They also have three kinds of free bread with jams and butter! Pair that with some soup and/or pasta and you have a delicious, inexpensive meal! more
