I've eaten at the Gurnee Tacos El Norte twice and enjoyed it both times. They give you a very generous portion for the amount you pay and I found their food to be really good. I'll admit that it's not my absolute favorite Mexican food, but I've only been there twice so they may have something I love more than anyone else. With Mexican food I tend to find one thing I love at each restaurant. (If I'm in the mood for empanadas it's On the Border, if it's fried ice cream it's PePe's, if it's tamales...well those I like authentically homemade, never found a restaurant one I liked).
The atmosphere is great, they have decorated wonderfully and just expanded to include a banquet area.
Their service is great. I couldn't believe how quickly they had my meal done the first time I went. I literally think my friend and I waited 5 minutes and it was HOT so it was fresh. The second time I waited a bit longer, maybe 10 minutes.
The second time I went I had a bit of a cold and their salsa cleared my sinuses quick! That was a bonus for me.
I went to this restaurant because of the rave reviews I had heard from friends and I wasn't disappointed (neither were the people I've dined with). Only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because I have found better food, but that's just my tastes...to someone else their food could be perfect. I will be definitely return to sample more of their dishes so I can figure out my favorite.
