My experience with Thrifty Tree Service starts and ends with the owner and the president of the company Dave Aviram.
Back in Aug 2008 an eighty year old tree fell in my backyard and Dave Aviram was first on the scene. When he first came he assured me that I have nothing to worry about within regards to the payment and that my insurance company will pay for everything, I even asked him, what if they won't? He said don't worry I will quote you a different invoice in case the insurance won't pick up the bill. He quoted me $17,700 for the job with the insurance and he gave me an invoice which he knew that is not an official quote for $10,100 in case the insurance won't pay. Beside that I had 2 other companies that quoted me: one for $7,500 and the other for $10,000. Until today I don't have an answer why I went with Dave, at the time he seemed very friendly, trustworthy and helpful person. Next he brought 2 suspicious looking guys from the city that brought the permit with them to me so I’ll sign it on the spot to remove the tree at 7:00 AM, not giving me or anyone else the chance to verify any of the information. As soon as I signed the permit and the contract with him he became a different person, he said that I must pay him regardless if the insurance will pay me or not and he knew that my policy only covers $1,000 for tree removal. And that’s it, after he removed the tree he was asking for the money on a daily basis and I explained to him that I’m still waiting for the money from the insurance company. My house was damaged badly and I had to repair the house with the money I got from the insurance. At one point I paid Dave Aviram $7,000 from the repair money because I do believe that he deserve to get paid money for his job. After some time I asked Dave if we can settle on the rest of the amount and if he is willing to honor his quote of $10,100 because I didn’t get the money from the insurance company, his answer was NO, and not just that, now he will enforce the interest that is written in the fine print on
