Tired of Megaplexes. This place is for you 10/17/2005

A tiny movie house that specializes in art movies with the occasional Hollywood hit to help pay the rent. Admission to all shows is just $5. On Saturday afternoons at 4:30, a classic movie is shown. The price of admission is a donation to charity, where three local charities have glass "tip" jars for you to throw in your donation (Let your conscience be your guide). The concession prices are unreal. In the age of $8 popcorn and $4 sodas and $3 candy bars, you can get a jumbo pail of popcorn for $4.50; soda for $1 in a 12 oz can and candy bars are a buck. Dennis M, the manager, mans the box office and concessions stands, sometimes excuses himself to turn on the projector and knows just about everything about cinema history and trivia. You've got to visit this place at least once and more if you live in the area. Places like this don't exist anymore and it would be tragic to lose this area treasure. more
