First, a confession: I don't have a dog.
I am qualified to review NY Dog Spa because one of the founders was a former colleague of mine, whom I will refer to semi-anonymously with the initials FC. He is no longer affiliated with NYDS, but in the late 90's I got an earful about the concept and the founding of NYDS.
The point of differentiation is how they treat the human owners. By calling it a "spa", FC and his colleagues thought that the pet-obsessed would feel better about relinquishing their 4-footed family members. FC & Co. were right.
There is one different, key feature at NYDS - the ON SITE vet.
This probably makes no difference if you are dropping off your pet for a brief grooming. But if you plan to board your pet while you are on vacation, or leave her here during the day often for Day Care services, this is key. Most ordinary kennels don't have this.
Yes, celebrities really bring their dogs here.
In 1998, FC told me that Madonna used to use NYDS. You never know who you'll bump into by the checkout counter.
