Books on the Square is a fabulous independent bookstore and Wayland Square institution. They carry a wide range of new books for adults and children, and have begun carrying used books too. There is room in the children's area to sit and read, and browsing is definitely encouraged. There is also a table and chairs for chess. Finally, they wrap books and other gifts (e.g., Klutz Press kits, reading glasses, sealing wax) for free, and so they are one of the first places I look for gifts!
