When my pregnant wife talked about getting a midwife I wasn't terribly thrilled. I have a great deal of faith in modern medicine and using a midwife seemed a bit dicey. I agreed on the condition that the delivery would take place in a hospital where there were "real" doctors in case anything went wrong.
Peggy Kibbel is the nurse/midwife we selected and she was great. Instead of having a pool of doctors to work with we had just her. We saw her for every prenatal appointment and she was there at the delivery.
Peggy's a no nonsense kind of person, but with a great bedside manner. She listened to our wishes, but when the time came for a decision it was based solely on what was best for mom and the baby.
I have no doubt that if we have more kids we'll continue to use Peggy.
