If this is where you're planning on going and taking the family then don't bother to even get in the car. I'm a native Jacksonian, but I'm not about to lie and say that this is the best place since sliced bread. This "historic district" is just that, historic, there is hardly any businesses open on this street except for hourly women friends and funeral homes.
There are plans in effect to build up this part of jackson, but that's at least 5 years down the road. In addition, this is a very very dangerous part of town. Trust me!!!!
