We rented a car over the 4th of July holiday. The car was nice and I had a free upgrade so we took a Hyundai Sonata. When we returned the car, we were charged an extra $15, so I assumed we didn't get the free upgrade. When I asked about this on check in, I was told that my ""skip the counter"" ticket was only estimated and they determine what the fee actually is when I return the car. This seems like the old ""bait and switch"" to me and I don't like this and find this practice deceptive.
