I came down with moderate hip pain and severe knee pain after shoveling snow and attending ballroom dance lessons. I'm not sure whether it was an IT band injury or a flare up of arthritis. In any event, my therapist was wonderful. She was attentive, asked questions, answered my questions and was engaged with my problems. My therapist gave me clear instructions for exercise and helped me to maintain proper form during those exercises. Now when I exercise at the gym, I apply what my therapist told me during therapy -- belly in, don't arch my back, watch my alignment. I have been without pain for about four weeks, and when I reported that I was without pain my therapist reduced the frequency of our sessions; today she discharged me from treatment. This was so different from when I had chiropractic treatment some years ago: I felt that had I not insisted on stopping, the chiropractor would have continued until my insurance ran out, regardless of whether the treatment was doing any good.
