I had the WORST experience at Dr. Carlin's office. I initially went to see him because my dentist told that I needed to get a crown to prevent future damage to a tooth. I was not having any problems or pain with this tooth prior to my visit with Dr. Carlin. I was only doing this because I want to keep my teeth healthy. I made an appointment with him trusting he would do a good job on my teeth. I failed to do any research prior to seeing him. Big mistake! My first visit with him was at the Madison office which I did not feel was professional at all. His staff was talking about personal things and acting as if they were just hanging out. He came in and started working on my mouth. He did not explain anything at all to me which made me very nervous since this was my first crown ever. He attempted to numb my mouth and couldn't accomplish to do that properly. He ended up giving me THREE shots in my mouth and I still was NOT numb so I suffered through the pain because I didn't want another useless shot. I felt he was numbing the wrong area of my mouth instead of the area he was working on. They were very ruff with my mouth and just made me completely nervous the whole time they were working on me. Dr. Carlin wasn't even the one who placed my temporary crown. He had his assistant do it all. She fitted me for my temporary and made the mold for my permanent crown. She even placed the temporary on me and everything. She did a good job but he didn't even check her work. That doesn't seem very professional to me. I left the office with my temporary crown with plans to come back for my permanent crown in two weeks. I had a great experience with my temporary crown. I had no pain at all and could eat on it and everything. It was like nothing was done to my mouth.\r \r I went to the Hendersonville office to have my permanent crown placed. This office is completely different from the Madison office. It seemed more professional and extremely nicer compared to the Madison office. Big difference! But in the end it's still the same dentist working on your mouth. So this time he removed my temporary and placed my permanent crown. I went without numbing because he did a horrible job numbing me last time. Plus I was currently in my 2nd trimester of pregnancy and he just made me nervous all around with his work. So I decided to suffer through the pain and it was very uncomfortable and painful. Such a bad experience. Once he got my permanent crown on, it hurt and was very uncomfortable. I could not eat or anything on that side of my mouth. He did some drilling on it and said it will be fine. I left his office hoping he was right. I waited a week and still was unable to even use that side of my mouth. I couldn't eat on it or anything. So I made another appointment in hopes he could fix it.\r \r I went back in and he did very minor adjustments to the tooth. He then proceeded to tell me if it still hurts than I will need to come back in for a root canal. WHAT??? I just paid $500 out of pocket for a crown on a tooth that had NO PROBLEMS prior and now he messed up my tooth and wants me to come back and spend more money. I asked multiple questions and all of his responses felt made up. I did not trust his 'professional' judgment nor did I feel he even knew what he was talking about. I've never felt so unsafe in someone's hands before and being pregnant did not help at all. He sent me home and said if you still can't eat on that side in a week then you need to come back in for a root canal. It's been well over a month and he nor his staff has even called to check on me. This is not a professional or safe dentist. Please save your time and money. I would never use him again even if he was the last dentist on earth! more
