It's not that the other shop was lying, exactly. My engine wasn't holding pressure. A new engine with install would be $3,500. But spending that kind of money on a 20-year-old car worth less than $500 just didn't make sense. I asked Robert if there was anything we could do just to keep it going. He re-set the plugs, then put some 50-weight oil and some Restore® in. The car started up.
