I've been a customer at Avalon Tea Room for over ten years. I used to go there about once a week for several years and now I continue to go there a little less--maybe once a month for a special day out. On various occasions, I've seen people of color and from different backgrounds served at the tea room with no problem. The times when customers are given unfriendly looks are when their kids are running around, breaking things and bothering people. If you want a place where your kids can run wild, take them to McDonald's. I love to see little kids dress up and go to Avalon as a special place where they can sit quietly and drink tea. But please don't have your kids treat my table as a jungle gym on my special day out. My best guess is that your kids weren't behaving well and that's why you were given unfriendly looks. As a longtime customer, I am acquainted with the managers at Avalon (and by the way, I am not an employee or a manager) and they are not unfriendly to people from different cultures. I'm sure your money is just as good as anyone's. But when kids are misbehaving, it causes problems for their other customers and hence the unfriendliness.
