I started off as a kickboxer/boxer. I would be hitting pads and then occasionally I would look over at the people who were grappling. When I first saw Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) I saw a tangled mess of bodies and limbs flailing around on a mat. It all appeared out of focus and foreign. I didn't understand the complexities/subtleties of what was going on. I decided to try it one day and got my butt handed to me by a tiny girl with a blue belt around her waist. I was hooked from that moment on.
Phil is my favorite instructor (I've had a few). And he is always there for me. He's helped me get fights (mma), told me about upcoming events, and he's helped me get ready for fights personally. He's very giving of his time and his technique (which is quite good). Roll with Phil and you'll see what I'm talking about. He always has a nice, calm, and fun (sometimes quirky) demeanor. I've always felt welcomed by him and his students.
