Another Bride in Tears 8/19/2011

Okay, I'll admit it: I read the two very negative reviews and still went to this place. My sister and my aunt had both recommended this place to me (niether of them had wedding dresses altered - it was shirts and jackets). So I decided to take my wedding dress in, following the advice of the woman I talked to on the phone who said 3 weeks before the wedding would be plenty of time. I should point out this woman barely spoke English. I was wary, but trusted my family. I brought in the dress and a man pinned my hem, bustle and waist that needed to be taken in. I did not need major surgery on the dress, just a few tweaks. My grandmother was with me, and heard him say the dress would be ready in one week. This was a Wednesday. I came back the following Wednesday to find my dress being worked on, he said he had a girl sick the day before, and was behind, so to come back tomorrow. I should point out that at this point I saw my bridesmaids dresses hainging in the store as well, since three of my bridesmaids were the daughters of the aunt that recommended the place to me. We came back that Thursday, I put the dress on, and it was clearly not done. Only the outer layer had been hemmed, so tulle was poking 5 inches out the bottom. My mother asked him what the problem was, and he said ""[He] would never have said it would be ready in one week."" He promised it would be ready on Tuesday (my wedding was the Saturday after that). So we had no choice but to come back that Tuesday, and the dress was STILL not done, but all of my bridesmaid's dresses were. He said he just had to move some hooks and eyes on the bustle, and it would be done in a few hours. So the fourth time we came back, four days before my wedding, we got my dress. I was crying during the final fitting, I was so frustrated. He wanted $260 for all the alterations, and would not budge on the price even after all we had been through. Furthermore, the bustle on my dress was lopsided, which my mom could see during the final fitting, but decided to just fix it herself since we were so very DONE with dealing with the man. I saw several women working in the store, but apart from the initial phone call, only interacted with the man. The hem and waist alterations were fine, but could have been done anywhere. This was undoubtedly the worst experience I had with planning an otherwise beautiful wedding. I wish I had something nice to say, but I must be honest. Those were not the tears I was envisioning when I thought about seeing my dress altered. more
