Horrible handling of pets and try to rip off customers 7/20/2011

The short story: 1. Do not take your bird to this vet! Or any animal for that matter. 2. They try to sell all types of ""checkup"" tests that are unnecessary. This is a sales business, not a vet. 3. They don't know how to handle birds, especially not the technician. I wouldn't doubt it if they injure birds regularly. I can't stress this point enough. The long story: I went to Animal House hoping to see Dr. de la Navarre, but ended up with another vet. So I can't comment on his expertise or manner, as I did not meet him. I did however meet the ""technician"", who started by trying to sell all sorts of unnecessary checkup tests. I was very clear that I brought my parrot in for rough feathers and that was all. Beware the long list of tests your pet ""needs"" for checkups. I'd trust any mechanic with a diagnosis and a bill much more than I would ever trust this animal clinic. They're trying to rip you off. No attempt was made to be gentle with my parrot during the physical examination. In fact, considering all it included was looking at his skin and feathers, feeling his belly, and looking into his eyes, it could have been done with much less force. Don't take your bird to this animal clinic, as they have no idea how to handle them safely! The vet said there was nothing visibly wrong with my parrot and that the ruffled feathers on his back were likely from giving too many showers and with too high of water pressure. After the physical examination the saleswoman, er technician, came back in with the estimate on all the checkup tests. When I said I didn't want the tests, she was visibly disappointed. I felt like I was telling a car salesman no. It was exceedingly unprofessional. I tried to go pay my bill but she kept trying to insist on the checkup tests and get the vet back to help convince me. Finally I just gave the receptionist the cash for the office visit and left. What a waste of time and money. In all, it was a very traumatic experience for my parrot and me. Please do not take your pets to this clinic. And even if you do for lack of other local options, beware of the sales pitch. more
