My Experience. 4/8/2011

I recently took my 2 year old son to Dr. Kotlow. First let me tell you how they sent me a packet in the mail with all kinds of forms to fill out. The one that caught my eye was the one asking for me to sign to give permission for Dr. Kotlow to restrain and put his hand over my son's mouth to quiet him down . This concerned me and of course I didn't not sign it. Now, when I went into see him he did a cleaning on him with a regular toothbrush and had me watch a video on causes of tooth decay in what looked like a closet turned into an exam room. My son was very cooperative as Dr. Kotlow looked into his mouth and immediately diagnosised him with enamel hypoplasia due to discoloration of his two front teeth and said he had two cavaties. Again, no dental equipment used at all. He wanted to shave down the middle of my son's two front teeth in hopes this will relieve the tooth decay and then fill it with a filling. As I was scheduling the appointment for the procedure the assistant pulls out a number of forms asking for my signature again stating that they can restrain my son and how the anesthia will last all day and the whole process. It sounded scray to me. I asked the front desk girl if I am allowed in the room with my child because I noticed alot of parents sitting alone in the waiting room and she said no. I asked her why and she just couldn't explain it. I left there feeling scared and worried that my son has bad teeth as it was explained to me that my son will suffer from tooth decay all his life and his teeth will eventually crumble due to a high fever he had as an infant. The whole procedure just scared me too because #1 he was going to be on another floor as me. I can not watch or listen in. # 2 When my son received his ear tubes the procedure didn't seem as bad as this, at least when it was explained and there weren't any forms. Needless to say, I received a second opinion and was told my son had no such thing and no cavaties. They did a proper cleaning with the dental equipment and the discoloration was gone! They even flossed his teeth. When I called to cancel the appointment with Dr. Kotlow's office I was asked why and I explained to them my worries and what the second dentist said. Dr. Kotlow came on to the phone and basically told me he stands by his diagnosis, I'll see in a few months and that I watch too much tv. Stay away from this man, he's a horrible person. more
