At this point it's not even about the money anymore it's about being a decent human being. this is an example of abuse of power and what is wrong with our society. I don't blame the people this owner employs i blame the people who make the policies that don't have to look into the eyes of the people they rip off everyday...
I broke down on the NJ Turpk., my windshield wipers stopped working & it was pouring out. The tow truck arrived and had to tow me to his shop (NJ law). I'm not familiar with the area or mechanics. I spoke to the women at George's Garage, explained my situation & that it could just be a link & I could possibly get it back home in order to prevent AAA from having to come out. (I don't pay for the tow so it was at no expense to me) I saw them bring my car into the garage for a total of 10 min. They said a part needed to be replaced & it may take a few days bc he had to order it from the dealership. I thought well I can't have my car out here for a few days. Then they gave me a bill for $85. I was more than disheartened/shocked. I work very hard & know when someone is ripping me off. I asked the women/mechanic, very calmly, how could you charge me $85 for 10min? There was an uncomfortable answer(I'm sure this isn't the first time they have gotten this ?. They knew in their heart it wasn't right) I brought the car to my mechanic, he looked at the car, ordered the part & fixed it in 2 hours. Part $16-total bill $65. I called George's they of course had no sympathy. I explained I don't mind paying for their time but $85 for 10 min for job that was done fast/$65 how is this honest & good business?! They had nothing to say but they know they ripped me off. I think its a shame that when your broken down in torrential downpours & get towed by Turnpike certified trucks, you get brought to a place like this. I would have let them fix it,had the guy said we can get the part and do it for you (COULD YOU IMAGINE WHAT THEY WOULD HAVE CHARGED?). The service I received is not caring for your customers & not good business. This was a matter of a 10 min look under my hood. There are good honest shops that would have charged me a fair rate for their 10 min of time, especially if I had called them back to explain the situation. I am positive that i am not the only one who has been ripped off by George & think people that make money this way are just legal thieves. Bad Karma being spread on that corner
