I've have had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Barbara Kalvig for over 25 years. We first met when I had my first Shih-Tzu named Benson, and Dr Kalvig was working with the late Dr. Howard Kessler. She was the ONLY veterinarian in his practice that actually gave my dog a comprehensive checkup and our relationship started there. Ben died at 10 years of age from a quickly spreading cancer, and eight months after his death, I adopted a Shih-Tzu pup who I named Jerry.\r
?Dr. Kalvig became Jerry's vet from his infancy stage. I followed her throughout the years until she opened her own practice with her wonderful partner, Dr. James M Shorter. Jerry was a perfectly healthy dog until 13 1/2 years of age, when all of a sudden he became very ill. It took her vast skill, dedication & patience (really detective work) to determine that he had a tumor on his adrenal gland.We could not know if it was malignant or benign until surgery was performed to remove it.
