Barnes & Noble used to be a pretty relaxing place to wander about and browse for books. They've installed a nook sales stand prominently by the entrance, making it almost impossible to enter the place without being bothered by a sales pitch. The sales staff is generally pretty cool, but not so much so the last few times I went in, even a little rude. Hard to justify $25/year to receive anything off of list price. I've taken my shopping online.
