They are utterly confused 8/24/2010

Unfortunately, this is one of many music stores run by a guitar person who knows nothing about band accessories. I am a clarinet major at Southeastern and I have had many of my clarinet students come to their lessons with alto saxophone reeds. In case you do not know, woodwind reeds are not interchangeable; but apparently the people at Jody Mayeux's Music Shop do not know this. I had to send the students back to the music store with an exact name and description of what a box of clarinet reeds looks like. Keep in mind that a box of reeds has the name of the instrument on it. A fourth grade student just learning how to play clarinet might have a hard time distinguishing between alto and clarinet reeds, even with the label on the box; but an adult who makes it their living to sell the reeds has no excuse for not know which reeds are which. I have had this problem several times and have heard about it happening on several occasions. This is absolutely ridiculous, especially when reeds are so expensive. You would think a student would be able to walk up to someone who owns a music accessory store that sells reeds and ask them for the right reeds, and then get the right reeds. You would think.
