We have owned 6 old houses in 5 different states. We have done at least a dozen large-scale remodels/additions over the past 25 years...so we know a thing or two about how jobs can go. Currently, we live in NE Portland and my elderly dad lives with us -- we had a desire to build a ""sunroom"" off the east side of our house so he could have a better view of the world outside. We went with Hammer and Hand after we saw some of the jobs they had done in the neighborhood. The entire experience, from first meeting with Sam to paying the last bill, was a complete pleasure. The sunroom addition is spectacular; people frequently stop their cars and come to the door to ask who built the room. Every single H&H person was friendly, professional and extremely skilled. If the H&H price estimate seems a bit higher than other bids you may get -- well, experience has taught us that a lowball estimate does not mean you are going to end up paying less. The H&H practice of time + materials was the best way to cost the job -- and we would not do it any other way in the future.
