I had a really BAD experience with Silicon Alley Computers 2/18/2010

I took my laptop IN after being convinced via phone that a 'power jack replacement' was a common repair. I was told it would take 1-hr to take the computer apart/1-hr to put it back together + they would throw in the $7 part! \r TWO days later, I was told that I NOW had NO MOTHERBOARD, the power regulator was SHOT. NOW, I had a MB/power regulator when I walked in-but to get to the part-it appears they blew up the MB.\r NOW you ask, did they take responsibility by offering me ANYTHING for the lose of useage of my laptop? YES, They OFFERED to SELL ME a 12-y.o. USED computer they had on consignment for $340, PLUS I would have to pay my originally committed $140 to transfer my DATA from my DEAD LAPTOP to this super OLD/heavy laptop. \r Do you think this is FAIR? \r Ultimately, I had to pay $140 to transfer my data from the DEAD laptop to an old used tower I had at home! They got insulted + extremely defensive when I asked if they would split the difference with me (I pay only $70/and they take $70 for their effors). \r Soooo, I walked away with a DEAD laptop which I now must REPLACE ...and... I am out $140. \r \r Would YOU consider this a good experience if you had to buy a new laptop after going in for a standard repair?\r \r IF I could give ZERO stars, I would. Pros: In response to their screw up, you might a free Hot Choc :( Cons: IF I break something, I buy it-what if THEY break something? more
