I am very excited to write a review for Essence VIP in Gurnee. To be honest in all my years of visiting black hair salons in major cities this was one of my most pleasant visits. I have been living in Lake County for 8 years and have not found a hair salon within 20 minutes of my home till now. First the salon is very tastefully decorated, extremely clean and the ambience is great with soothing music in the background. Today was my first visit with an appointment for 10:30am. I was greeted as I walked in the door and was in a chair getting my hair prepped for a relaxer by 10:31am. I loved the way things worked like clockwork, as one process is finished you are on to the next. Sitting under the dryer does not feel like you are doing it just so the stylist can work on someone else. The lady (Maude) that washed, relaxed and rinsed my hair was very friendly and made light conversation which definitely helped to pass the time. Her relaxing hair massage was enough to make me want to stay put for awhile. I came prepared with a novel, I-Pod and puzzle and did not get to really start any because I was constantly being taken care of. Terez was my stylist and she took the time to learn about what my goals were for my hair and also advise on techniques, products and procedures I could do to keep my hair in good shape. She seems more like a friend I knew for years when in fact it was our first personal encounter. I love my haircut and feel like a new woman! I would definitely suggest this salon to any and all friends and I will be making frequent appointments. I should note that you don?t see any of the stylists sitting around eating their breakfast or lunch in your view or tending to their children or focusing on TV or chatting on cellphones or even long term conversations with other stylists. You truly feel respected as the client while in this salon and isn?t that what you should feel when you are spending your money?!
