The Merchant was the first place I went to when I moved to Jersey City. Owned by an Irish brother/sister duo, you truly get the feeling that you're in a pub. Make that a high-end pub with really good food and fresh dinner specials. Nonetheless, the barstaff and waitstaff are accommodating and friendly. The owners can be seen walking about and chatting with the patrons. The drink specials are daily and daring. And unless a line forms at the host podium, you never get the feeling of being rushed.\r
