I was very excited to try out the Chocolate Bar. Unfortunately, the food was strange and overpriced. There is a teeny, tiny menu, including a few savory snacks, then a few ?inventive? yet overpriced desserts. $9 to 10 for a dessert is way too much money. The sausage was extremely dry and as salty as a salt lick. Several people had a bite and were grossed out. A one inch square piece of chocolate costs several dollars, and the taste was no better than Alon?s or Godiva. The desserts were not as one would imagine from the menu descriptions. A piece of cake sounds normal enough, but what if it is enclosed in a bell cloche scented with a sprig of lavender, and you have to pour a shot glass of strangely infused liqueur over it? The cloche had the heat trapped and the cake was so hot it burnt the tongue, and got soggy. Puddings were weird, as well. I am an adventurous eater and have a master?s (and many years of experience) in the hospitality field; however, this place was just too ?out there? (even for NYC, much less for Decatur). It may be good for a glass of wine or a chocolate martini, but save the weirdo desserts for the Jetsons.
Pros: Give them credit for trying, have a drink
Cons: Weird, overpriced food that just doesn't work
