After spending almost 3 years at another martial arts school in town, realized that neither my young son nor I was getting what we wanted and that a change was appropriate. After looking at several other schools, we ended up at Martial Arts for Health. Almost 3 years later, it was still absolutely the best choice we could have made. This place is different in that it takes a more holistic approach to martial arts - i.e., it''s not just about the combat part. The emphasis on both mental and physical development, combined with the focus on maintaining more of the traditional discipline and respect for the line (the continuum from the higher to lower belts) fit for both my then 10 year old son and me. While the instructors will definitely push you to get out of your mental and physical comfort zones - you need to do that to develop - it is done in a way that recognizes that every student is not the same and that can't all do the same things. To be perfectly upfront, the instructors can come across as aggressive in trying to get people to sign up and commit. However, from what I have seen and experienced, this comes from a very heartfelt and sincere desire to see you have the chance to experience the potential for personal growth that the school offers through your martial arts training. Looking at what the school has done for us, I have no problem in recommending it to anyone of any age or ability.
