I've lived in the Teele Square area for a few years now and always saw how crowded Renee's tends to be for breakfast on the weekends. This past weekend my boyfriend and I finally decided to see what all the fuss was about. We got there fairly early so there was no problem getting a table and the service was pretty good, probably because it was fairly slow at the time. Every 10 minutes or so our waitress would stop by to warm up our coffees. That's probably where the good ended for me. The food was terribly slow coming out and we waited approximately 40 minutes when there couldn't have been anymore than 5 other tables occupied at the time. When we did get our food, my eggs benedict were cold while the home fries that came with it were steaming hot. Cutting into the eggs, a big flow of water came spouting out ruining the rest of the breakfast, the english muffin was like a soggy sponge after that and the hollandaise sauce was not home made. The home fries were seasoned well but they were overcooked. It had to be one of the worst breakfasts I've ever had. My boyfriend had one of the specials which he did enjoy a great deal but agreed with me on the home fries. We also thought the menu was quite limited pertaining to the the usual breakfast menus we've seen at other local diners. Most of the menu comes off the specials board which although look interesting, you need to be in the mood for as they contain more unusual pairings. Sometimes you just want an old fashion breakfast. I might give this place another shot since my boyfriend enjoyed his breaksfast and seeing that a lot of people seem to love this place. Maybe I just ended up there on an off day, but I wouldn't order the eggs benedict again.
Pros: cute little cafe
Cons: food, slow service
