Extraordinary, abnormal damage to my bed 8/18/2008

I made the mistake of trusting the positive CitySearch reviews of Boston Quality Movers. They were nice on the phone, and their quote ended up being accurate, but their movers are a disaster. For the first leg of the move, they somehow arrived without any tools. That didn't end up being a problem at the time, but what kind of mover has no tools for disassembling furniture? This kind of carelessness ended up losing me hundreds of dollars when they moved my bed into my new apartment and tried to reassemble it. They didn't know what they were doing, didn't ask me for the manual, didn't ask for help or say anything was going wrong, and they destroyed the bed. It can no longer support a mattress, and has strange holes drilled into its sides that weren't there before. Plus, a lot of bolts and screws are missing, so I can't even fix it myself. I'm going to have to buy a new bed. Because I didn't get any extra insurance, the most I could get from filing a claim -- despite the extraordinary negligence of what they did to my bed -- would be $.60/lb, or about $25. The bed cost a few hundred dollars, so I would've been better off using a more reliable but more expensive shipper, or buying some very expensive insurance. Pros: On time, good customer service (unless you're filing a claim, which they've outsourced). Cons: Movers who will destroy your furniture and leave you with no legal recourse. more
