I moved in August of last year (2007) and needed my belongings in storage for 1 month before I was closing on my new home. The day of the move the movers showed up 4 hours late, they packed my stuff in the truck in record time and moved it into storage.
One month later I closed on my new condo and they were scheduled to move my things from storage. I got a call that they were actually going to arrive early since my move in August was so disastrous... nice huh? I thought it was.
When the movers came I noticed right away some things were missing... then they carried in a $1500 chair and asked if the legs were missing before I moved... Ahhhh.. NO!!!! I called the moving company immediately while the movers were still moving in my items in... as soon as I said missing and broken I was given a number for the Claims Processing Center in Staten Island. I submitted a claim as soon as I received all of the paper work on October 9th 2007. I moved in October of 2007... it is July 2008 and for MONTHS I have called the Claims Processing Center asking the status of my claim and everyday they tell me no one is answering the phone in claims.
I feel as though I will never be compensated for my furniture being destroyed, good china disappearing, limited edition Lenox from my grandmother vanished.
I'd say it's a hell of a business to get into... the no consequences to their actions! The form that I received from the Claims Processing Center on October 9th states the following:
All liability, settlement, and /or payment remains exclusively with the Carrier who performed your move.?
Cons: The showed up 4 hours late, lost and broke my furniture and now have ignored my claim
