Ha! I almost hate to write a review... at this point, I consider the Phx Art Museum a hidden gem for moms and tots and don't want to blow the lid off of that. However, due to the Summer heat I took drastic measures and took my toddler to the museum one afternoon. She seemed to thoroughly enjoy the sculptures, and a wonderful security guard (by the Asian galleries) told us about a CHILDRENS' area on the second floor! It was a super place, perfect for little ones. In addition to child-sized foam chairs placed in front of mini desks with colored pencils, crayons, and paper, there was a felt wall with dozens of small velcro characters that children could place to create stories. In my daughter's case, she rearranged the characters and dumped out the colored pencils - but that was OK... it was the childrens' area! (and we picked up afterwards.) In closing, I was able to experience a bit of culture and repose while strolling through the various galleries and exhibits, and my daughter was exposed to the idea of art as entertainment and the concepts of creativity and polite society. Of course she won't get it until she's much older, but it is never too early to start.
