Worth The Drive 5/7/2008

After having been restaurant customers for many years, in 1997 we moved from the Canton area 50 miles west to Jackson. There a lot of restaurants between Jackson and Canton, especially in Ann Arbor, and you would think that finding something similar closer to home would be no problem. Boy, were we wrong! We still drive 100 miles round trip every week for lunch at the Canton Sze-Chuan. Why? Chinese restaurants serving buffet lunches with maybe a slightly spicy dish or two are a dime a dozen. If you want a truly authentic szechuan dish cooked to order, the search just became much more difficult. We eat a lot of very spicy hot ethnic food and when you challenge the kitchen to deliver the full character of their most potent spicy dishes, there is no problem telling the pretenders from those able to offer the real deal and Sze-Chuan Canton is the real deal! Although our schedules do not allow us to enjoy dinners there, their lunch offerings are definitley the best combination of excellent food, generous portions and very reasonable prices. I prefer the Ta-Chien chicken, my wife's choices are a little more subject to impulse. The hot and sour soup is the best we have ever had. The atmosphere, waitstaff and the food have never been less than excellent. If we are willing to drive 100 miles round trip, especially with current gas prices, you know it must be worth it. Pros: Too many to list Cons: Careful with the full strength spicy hot dishes more
