After reading the last five reviews of Valerie's Hair Salon, I just had to write myself...I went a few months ago with a friend of mine who LOVES the place - since I couldn't get an appointment at my usual place, I thought I'd give it a try...I have (had) VERY heavy, long, thick hair - it's almost impossible to make a ""whoops"" while styling it...Notice I said almost...\r
I always request an experienced stylist - I like the natural curl in my hair and have NO desire to over process it or have a style where it has to be straightened (it takes more than 45 minutes with a top of the line flat iron) and this time, I had been scheduled to meet with the owner - as was my friend, but for some reason, she was not there - no problem, I was open to someone else since I only wanted a trim.\r
BIG mistake. The girl who ""styled"" my hair did it ""dry"" - literally grabbing it between two combs and hacking it with thinning shears. I was surrounded by clumps of my hair on the floor - the stuff left on my head sticking up at odd angles. I kept waiting for her to wet it and reshape it - never happened - even another stylist questioned her about it...When I questioned her about it, she actually (and with a straight face) told me my hair had ""scissor shock"" - I responded with ""is that what they're calling a bad style these days?""\r
She thought I was kidding.\r
So now, MONTHS later my poor, once ""whoops"" proof hair is STILL recovering! The worst part was I was leaving for Europe the next week and had just wanted a simple trim - thank goodness I didn't let her talk me into highlights!! My hair probably would have fallen out in clumps on the plane!!\r
Oh, and my once long hair is now barely to my shoulders - I don't even want to get into what she did to my bangs...\r
Although the place looks really neat from the outside, run, don't walk, right on by!!
Pros: looks nice from the outside
Cons: everything else
