Fresh produce, not so fresh employees 3/11/2008

Sweet way to support local farms and business, and make a statement with the kind of tampons you buy. But everyone else who shops there is making that same statement, and want to make sure you know they're making that statement. And the statement is ""I believe in stuff, and my parents pay my rent 'cuz I wouldn't be able to afford this gluten-free mac and cheese any other way."" This place is really expensive, and kind of pretentious in a ""I read books and ride my bike and don't shower because I'm better than you"" kind of way but the fruits and veggies are good, and they have amazing home-made sammies and dips. They'll totally insist carob is better than chocolate, and probably give you a pamphlet about the far-away feel good cause of the week. No parking, but you should be riding your bike there anyway. Don't know if they accept WIC or Food-Stamps, even though they're all preachy about charity and community. Make it a point to ask, and watch them get really scared. Pros: Local produce, snacks Cons: Patchouli-stank, hipocrisy more
