Expensive, below average diner fare 2/14/2008

Let's talk Breakfast: Expensive and off-putting: $26.00+ for breakfast for two, excluding the tip for the good service. Our orders consisted of one order of bacon and eggs with toast, and homefries, grits, and orange juice, and one order of bacon and turkey sausage with toast, homefries and grits and coffee. The eggs, bacon and sausage were prepared properly, as they should be. Grits are a recent ,welcome breakfast addition to Mike's. For those not familiar, it's simply a hot corn cereal much like like oatmeal, a cozy downhome staple of the Midwest and South, often served with cheese added, but basically, you boil corn meal in water and serve it up hot. Hard to screw up, however, for about $ 2.95, we received very small, cup- sized portions which were somewhat oily. A request for salsa for the eggs brought a small portion, which tasted exactly like the stale, uninsipred stuff which is sold in jars in the supermarket snack chips aisle. This place is the former Olympia, now Mike's Olympia Grill, and has recently undergone a renovation and expansion, which apparently focused on new dining space and furniture, and not sharpening up the menu. I was tempted to call this review ""Manhattan pricing"", but even that bastion of over-priced everything now offers better breakfast value. Pros: Fast ,friendy service, recent renovations vastly improve the space Cons: Expensive, below average diner fare more
