Vintage Astorian Greek 8/6/2007

Having first visited Astoria a few years ago, this was the first restaurant I tried. Coincidentally, it was the first Greek restaurant for me as well. I fell for this tiny eatery immediately. Grilled seafood is superb: try the swordfish souvlaki (kebab). Side dishes and appetizers quite exquisite as well. Be sure to order the sweet potatoes or the skordalia (garlic puree), accompanied by a seafood and a cucumber counterpart, along with which glistening garlic bread is served. Food is so plentiful that by the time the complimentary baklava arrives, it's a struggle to lift the fork. Be prepared for a long wait each time (once waited for 2 hours), since it's packed nightly. However, waitstaff is well-experienced, attentive, and gracious. Once was comped a whole meal when my dad commented that it was ""just okay."" Prices are extremely reasonable for seafood. Pros: Seafood, authentic Greek, Service Cons: Elbow-to-elbow seating, busy, long waits, no reservations more
