I've driven 1700 miles across the southern continental United States just to eat the beignets here. That and I have relatives in Chalmette. But stated purposes of visit aside, this is the mecca of coffee and deep-fried French pastries. For less than $3 you can get a piping hot plate of those fluffy, hollow, powdered-sugar-coated puffs of nirvana and a jet-black cup of some of the finest joe you've ever had. Words cannot describe how perfect this establishment is. The staff is friendly, you could not ask for a better location, and there's always live Jazz playing nearby. It is literally impossible for me to stop anywhere near the state of Louisiana and not stop here. Long live the French Quarter!!
Pros: pastry/coffee heaven; where you want to end up if you've lived a good life
Cons: your stomach is of finite dimensions
