I'm from Chicago. While I've found some GREAT New York-style pizza joints in NorCal- I've yet to find a place here that knows how to make a decent deep dish pie.
We went on a Tuesday night. I was stoked. It LOOKED just like the pizza joints in Chicago. Dark. Old. Slightly tacky. The kind of place you take your friends for a casual beer.
Being made to order before you are seated is annoying. Being made to wait 30 minutes for a table in a half-full house is even more so. Cash-only is absurd.
The pizza: It's good, for what it is - but it ain't Chicago pizza. Toppings are fine - if limited. Sauce is unexceptional. The crust is oily and somewhat mealy - instead of buttery and flaky.
It's not a bad meal - but but don't look to kill your Chicago crave here.
