What a Gem - and it's free! 8/2/2002

In a city with many unique and fabulous museums, the Museum of Art must take first place. One of the three best ""balanced"" art museums in the nation, it also boasts the continent's finest collection of Chinese art, Colonial American pewter (with examples by Paul Revere), significant medieval European tapestry, and European armour. The annual May Show is one of the most prestigious venues for young, emerging talents in the American art scene. One can listen to free organ recitals on the biggest pipe organ in the area in the museum auditorium (which is also home to a performing arts series held during the Fall/Winter concert season featuring renowned musicians from throughout the world). Best of all, it is the only major museum in America that is free to enter! But really now, do contribute at least a few dollars when you visit to help support this cultural treasure. Pros: Location, Parking, Quality more
